Some scammers also take advantage of peak shopping times or major promotional events to commit fraud, as transaction volumes increase during these times and store owners often cannot check each transaction thoroughly. Additionally, QR Code fraud can be executed through fake advertising flyers, phishing emails, or websites impersonating legitimate stores.
Scammers can use malicious QR Codes, placed in high-traffic areas such as bus stops, shopping centers, or other public places. Curiosity may lead passersby to use their phones to scan the scammer's QR Code. From that QR Code, you will be directed to a fake website designed to steal your information, such as bank account numbers, email addresses, personal information, and more.
These fake websites are often very sophisticated, resembling official sites to deceive users. Once you enter your personal or account information on these websites, scammers can use this information to steal your assets or commit other fraudulent acts.
Additionally, malicious QR Codes can direct you to websites containing malware. Simply downloading a file or installing an application can allow malware to infiltrate your phone, collect personal information, control the device, or cause other damages.
To protect yourself from QR Code fraud, you should take the following measures:
Always thoroughly check your bank account after receiving a transfer notification from a customer. Do not rely solely on the notification; confirm the exact amount has entered your account.
Only scan QR Codes from trusted sources. Avoid scanning codes from flyers, advertisements, or websites of unknown origin.
Use security and antivirus applications on your phone to protect personal information and bank accounts.
Regularly update your phone's software and operating system to protect against the latest security vulnerabilities.

Never download or follow instructions from an unknown QR Code. Downloading installation files or entering information on a web form can quickly cause your bank account to "evaporate." By taking these preventive measures, you can minimize risks and protect your assets from QR Code fraud schemes.
